Air Force Memorial
Overview
Located on a beautiful hillside vista in Arlington, Virginia, the Air Force Memorial honors the service and heritage of the men and women of the United States Air Force and its heritage organizations. Three stainless steel spires soar into the sky from the promontory reaching a heights of 402 feet above sea-level. The arching design was inspired by the contrails of Air Force Thunderbird aircraft as they peel back in a precision "bomb burst" maneuver. Granite walls contain inscriptions describing valor and values of aviation pioneers supporting the Air Force and its predecessor military organizations.
The Memorial is the scene for more than 250 activities each year to include military retirement, promotion and re-enlistment ceremonies, Honor Flight and student tours, wreath-laying ceremonies, Memorial Day, POW/MIA Day Recognition Day and Veterans Day programs and other special events.
The Air Force Memorial is open to the public, and admission and parking are free. The site features handicap accessible bathrooms that are open during visitor hours. The memorial is located adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery and is about a mile walk from both Pentagon City Station and Pentagon Station.
