The Old Guard Caisson Platoon Tour
Overview
Tour the stables, pet the horses and see up close how The Old Guard soldiers and horses train and prepare constantly for their solemn duty. The Caisson platoon of the 3rd U.S. Infantry "The Old Guard" have the honor of carrying a comrade for his last ride to Arlington National Cemetery where he will rest in peace with other honored dead.
Walk-in tours are offered noon to 4 p.m. Visitors must be 18 years old or accompanied by an adult. Feeding the horses is prohibited.
The 45-minute tour includes the history of the caisson platoon and a walk-through of its daily schedule. There’s also a chance to meet the horses and see the tack room and farrier shop.
To take the tour, enter the Fort Myer main gate and undergo a 10-minute background check. Or, for larger groups or a more scheduled tour, contact the Old Guard.
