Celebrating Black History Month
Unbroken Genius: The Life and Legacy of Dr. Charles R. Drew | Feb. 12
“Genius Unbroken” is the first comprehensive biography to bring the extraordinary life of Dr. Charles Drew, the “Father of the Blood Bank,” into focus. Born into Washington D.C.’s vibrant African American community at the turn of the 20th century, Drew rose on the strength of extraordinary physical and intellectual talents to become a groundbreaking medical research scientist. He lived in Arlington and he and his wife raised their children here. Join the Arlington Historical Society on February 12 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Marymount University's Reinsch Library for a presentation and discussion about Dr. Drew's life and accomplishments.
Memorializing the Enslaved of Arlington: What’s It All About? | Feb. 17
Memorializing the Enslaved of Arlington leaders, Jessica Kaplan (Arlington Historical Society) and Scott Taylor (Director of the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington) will discuss the project, its goals, history, successes, and challenges. Hosted by the Woman’s Club of Arlington on February 17 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., this event is part of their celebration of Black History Month.
Feel the Heritage Festival | Feb. 21
Arlington's 32nd annual Feel the Heritage Festival will be held on Feb. 21 from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Charles Drew Community Center. The festival welcomes hundreds each year to learn about the Arlington’s historically African American neighborhoods while enjoying live entertainment, delicious food and dozens of vendors.

Won't You Be My Owlentine? | Feb. 7
Come out to Potomac Overlook Regional Park on February 7 at 2:00 p.m. Love is in the air…and literally, for these beautiful birds of prey! See live raptors, learn about their mating habits during breeding season, and get your picture taken with a live bird of prey. More information here.
Love the Wine You're with Party at Screwtop | Feb. 7
Come to Screwtop Wine Bar on February 7 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. for a walk-around tasting of 20 love-themed wines, while enjoying cheese, chocolates, and passed appetizers throughout the event. At the end of each flowing session, you will be invited to journal, doodle, draw or meditate.

Garage Racing National Championships | Feb. 21
Head underground in National Landing for the area’s most beloved unconventional bike race - the Garage Racing National Championships - on February 21 at 11:00 a.m. See race participants traverse the parking garage racecourse dodging garage poles, looping around tight curves, and battling it out for a spot on the 2026 winner’s podium. Apart from traditional race categories, the fixed-gear race is not to be missed as bikers must pedal backwards to break.
