The Mostly Invisible Ever Present
Overview
Artist linn meyers creates drawings and installations comprised of closely spaced, rippling lines, each nested beside the one that came before it. Typically, she uses a fine tipped pen and draws each line by hand, welcoming the imperfections that are a natural part of working without templates or tape. The result can lead the viewer to bring awareness to both the intentional and accidental effects of one’s own everyday efforts.
In 2012, rather than purchase an off-the-shelf film to provide privacy for the Ellen M. Bozman Government Center’s five glass-walled public conference rooms, Arlington’s Public Art Program worked with meyers to create site-specific designs. She first created drawings on semi-transparent Mylar and then worked with a glass fabricator who scanned her drawings and digitally etched the designs into glass. Her final composition decreased distractions for users of these rooms and lent distinction to Arlington’s Government Center.
In 2023, the Government Center was renovated, and four of the five conference rooms that included the artist-designed etching were reconfigured. meyers will revisit her designs from 2012 to enhance these newly renovated conference rooms in dialogue with artist Kipp Kobayashi who has been selected to create a suspended work for the lobby.
