Jane Franklin Dance

Arlington-based Jane Franklin Dance will close 2024 at the intimate black box venue Theatre on the Run, with commissioned works by six choreographers.

-Dressed Up by Kelsey Rohr flirts with aggression, sensuality, and passion. Inspired by the work of visual artist Donna McCullough from the NVFAA Athenaeum exhibit “Women’s Work,” it is danced to “Turkish Lady Face” by The Underscore Orkestra. Ms. Rohr’s Dressed Up is presented on Saturday, Dec 14.

-Ms. Rohr presents a work for young dancers on Sunday, Dec. 15. JFD’s education projects through Move & Groove Kids has led to works that celebrate the dynamic creativity of youth. This new work is no exception.

-Robert J. Priore’s trio for three women, Elle Est Elle, premiered at Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival 2024.

-Currently, Priore is most interested in exploring movement duality between queer joy and sadness, and Priore’s second work on the program, Knew, is grounded similarly in a trio that frames fractured partnership. The movement responds to music: "The Poet" by Bachar Mar-Khalife, "Misty Blue" by Dorothy Moore, and "O mes theatres" by Barbara Alexander Tharaud.

-Forty+ Project, an ongoing program of Jane Franklin Dance, celebrates the collective creativity of people past the age of 40. For this performance JFD is happy to present movement choreographed by Emily Crews, Dance and Events Program Director at Glen Echo Park.

-Michala Conroy’s HumANIMAListic was selected for the Aurora Dance Festival and presented June 14, 2024 at the Capital One Hall at Tysons, VA. HumANIMAListic delves into the duality of human nature. The dance looks at the isolation that technology may bring to everyday life and in contrast, makes connections to innate animalistic tendencies, physical and instinctive.

-Robert Rubama (They/Him) is a New York City-based dancer and choreographer. His work is a duet within a symmetrical form created for dancers Michala Conroy and Amy Scaringe.

-WHOSE DAY IS IT ANYWAY? by Jamal Abrams is a fantastical retelling of someone’s special day. Whose day is it? Well, that’s for you to decide! This fever dream challenges and honors the American wedding. Throughout this work, one will understand the fight to love oneself. Or many. WHOSE DAY IS IT ANYWAY is a conversation between romanticized courtship and the reality of today's dating pool. I mean, we are in a recession! Music is by “Here Comes the Bride” by Starsound Orchestra and “Chapel of Love” by The Dixie Cups.
