Arlington businesses, development projects are honored |
Spring arrives with freshness, warmth, pollen.....and business awards. For Arlington Economic Development, these awards confirm what a great community businesses are part of in Arlington. If you missed a breakfast, luncheon or dinner ceremony along the way, here’s a recap of Arlington's recent successes.
Virginia Chamber Fantastic 50
Arlington had five companies recognized as members of the Fantastic 50 fastest growing companies in Virginia at the Virginia Chamber’s dinner on May 1st. Among this elite group were Capterra; Gibbs & Cox; Kadix Systems; PRO-telligent; and RNB Technologies.
Washington Business Journal Best Real Estate Deals
Arlington had a number of “bests” as outright winners or runners-up among the WBJ awardees on April 24th. The Wooster-Mercer Lofts project in Rosslyn was named the best Multi-family development and also received a runner-up award for best architecture. The MacFarlane Partners/JBG Companies deal which included Waterview won best land deal and office sale . Vornado and Kettler’s Metropolitan Park project earned a runner up in the land deal category.
Runner up for retail deal of the year was Arlington’s partnership with Federal Realty Investment Trust which included the construction of the Signature Theater/Library complex in the expanded Village at Shirlington. AED is especially proud of this deal since the agency was instrumental in both structuring the deal and managing development of the project.
The ABBIES
Arlington’s Best Businesses Awards, the ABBIES, were presented on May 13th. The Arlington Economic Development Commission (EDC) presented awards to Kadix Systems; Strategic Analysis; The McCormick Group; the Washington Capitals; and Torres Advanced Enterprise Solutions. These awards considered business growth, quality of service, industry leadership, and contributions to the community. The Arlington Chamber presented awards to the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing, Arlington Virginia Federal Credit Union and Harry's Tap Room. Two “Green ABBIES” were presented to Main Event Caterers and Java Shack. Both demonstrated that small businesses can truly walk the talk about environmental sustainability.
Helen Hayes Awards
It is not often that a local economic development office can claim to win a prestigious Helen Hayes Award, but AED was among the winners at the April 28th awards. The Washington Post Award for Innovative Leadership in the Theatre Community recognized the alliance of Arena Stage, the Crystal City Business Improvement District, Vornado/Charles E. Smith, Marriott, and Arlington Economic Development for developing Arena Stage's temporary theater space in Crystal City. More conventional awardees included Arlington’s own Signature Theater, Synetic Theater and perennial winner Eric Schaeffer.
So, it was a very busy three weeks. Congratulations to all of those receiving awards and keep up the good work!
